Herbal-Active® wins Australian Food Industry Innovation Award

I am really pleased to have received the Australian Food Industry Innovation Award 2013 for my natural antimicrobial, Herbal-Active®.

I have a lot of information on my site about Herbal-Active® and the retail/food service packed pouches we market as Fresher4Longer natural food rinse™.

That link is the search result when Herbal-Active® is used as a keyword.

To put the product and the Award into perspective, governments around the world are now seriously addressing food security because of our rising population and falling food production and distribution. In addition, available foods need to be safe to eat and nutritionally valuable as well.

Not only does Herbal-Active® replace the use of chemical preservatives in many instances, its benefits can be summarized in 4 key points:

  1. it reduces food waste (conserves production inputs)
  2. extends useful shelf life
  3. improves food safety and
  4. maintains the nutritional quality

For convenience, Herbal-Active® comes as a water soluble powder and consumer-ready pouches branded as Fresher4Longer™ natural food rinse™.

I believe that there are two kinds of people in the world: One who is interested in saving money, helping to preserve the environment, improve the quality of the food they eat and avoid food poisoning for themselves and their family.

Then there’s the other type. You know the sort. They waste food, squander their money, could not care less about the environment and do not take responsibility for their own or their family’s health and well being. They’d rather complain that they never have enough money, wheel out full waste containers every week for landfill, feel unwell and miserable and ignore their responsibility in taking care of their loved ones or themselves.

Now, I have some good news and some bad news.

The bad news is that we are heading for an over-populated world (I believe we are there already) and food shortages are causing current governments to start planning for action. In developed countries we throw out up to 45% of the food we produce which also consumes fertilizers, pesticides, fuel, soil nutrients and structure, irrigation water, time and effort.

The good news is that Herbal-Active® can go a long way to solving the food waste challenges of today.

We just need to care.

Hello Liban,

Yes, herbal-Active is commonly used by cosmetic manufacturers as a shelf life extender. It is simply added at 1% concentration (10g per kg product) and added with aromatic fragrances ie after any heating. Mix a small amount of your product with the required amount of Herbal-Active to make a paste and mix well. Add this back to the main batch and stir well. Labeling requirements are met with the statement “fragrance; essential oils of rosemary, star anise” and any other essential oils you might add.
