Australian Functional Ingredients – by Vic Cherikoff

Pick and Pack Production Staffer

I am looking to replace a valuable staff member who is leaving for personal reasons. This will be a hard position to fill because the nature of our business means I need a Jack (or Jill) of many skills. This is the description I have used in the advertisement:

AFI is a food, nutraceutical and cosmetic ingredient supply company specializing in Australian wild foods and medicines. We service B2C and B2B market segments domestically and internationally. We operate from a warehouse in Kingsgrove in Sydney from 8am to 4pm Monday to Friday.

The position is for a highly motivated worker with experience in commercial kitchen scale food production of small runs of hot filled processed products; mixing and dry packing of herbs, spices and blends; and picking and packing of orders.
A driver’s license is required for some occasional deliveries and pick ups.
Ability to work in a small team and often unsupervised once trained.
Ability to focus on the task at hand and maintain records of production runs, delivery schedules, stock control and the myriad of tasks a small business warehouse needs to track.
The applicant will also operate some processing equipment including hammermill, vibrating sieve, colloid mill, mixer, freeze drier, immersion heaters, balances, slicers etc. These entail some mechanical aptitude, appreciation of risk and consequence for personal safety and common sense.

Experience in the food industry essential with knowledge of food hygiene and food handling requirements.
Good phone skills and personable manner for ordering stock and some customer service calls.
Must have a drivers license and good driving record.
Neat working practices and cleaning up after yourself must be a habit.
Punctuality is a prerequisite. Starting at 8am can be a challenge if you are remote from the Sydney south west area. Early morning traffic can be hell so a local is preferred.
Attention to detail is a required skill as specific product formulations are critical.

Are you the person I am seeking or do you know of someone who might apply? Remuneration is negotiable depending on experience.

Apply through our Contact page on the website, NOT by commenting below.

Indigenous Australian preferred as this is a business focused on Australian wild foods and medicines.
